The Best Coaches Have Coaches (Here’s Why I Hired One)

Why Objectivity, Accountability, and Support Aren’t Weakness. They’re Efficiency.

You know the sayings:
The mechanic’s car is always broken.
The baker never has a fresh loaf.

Turns out, the fitness professional can also get stuck in her own head.

My issue was never not knowing what to do.
It was being too close to the problem to see it clearly.

I teach movement. I coach bodies. I understand programming.
And, yet, when it came to my own training, I was overthinking, second-guessing, and spinning.

Not because I lack discipline. Because expertise doesn’t equal objectivity.

So, I did the smartest thing I know how to do.

I hired a coach.

Hiring support wasn’t about “getting back on track.” It was about efficiency.

I didn’t need more information.
I needed structure, accountability, and an outside perspective, so my brain could stop micromanaging itself.

My coach is a non-negotiable appointment.

Knowing I’m showing up for that session means the rest of my training week falls into place. Not because I’m incapable of motivating myself, but because structure works.

Yes, we can talk about internal motivation all day.
And also? External accountability matters.

Especially when life is full, energy fluctuates, and decision fatigue is real.

Accountability isn’t childish.
It’s strategic.

Reason #2: You Can’t Coach Yourself Objectively

Left to my own devices, my programming gets influenced by:

  • Mood

  • Ego

  • What feels easiest—or what feels punishing

A coach sees what I can’t:

  • Blind spots

  • Patterns

  • When I’m under-challenging or pushing past what’s smart

And if I’m being honest?
I’m very capable of being hard on myself and expecting my body to perform like it did years ago.

Having a coach keeps me progressing safely instead of proving something unnecessarily.

(Yes, my trainer has her work cut out for her.)

This Isn’t About Help—It’s About Capacity

Hiring a coach saves me:

  • Time

  • Mental energy

  • Decision fatigue

That means I show up better—for my clients, my business, and my family.

This is what support looks like at this stage of life.
Not dependency.
Delegation.

Strong women don’t do everything alone.
They do what makes sense.
